What is ascites?

Ascites is accumulation of free serous fluid in the abdominal cavity in clinically detectable amounts, seen sometimes as a result of cirrhosis of the liver, kidney disease, intra-abdominal cancer, and severe congestive heart failure.
chylous a. Accumulation of a milky fluid in the peritoneal cavity. Also called chyloperitoneum.
