What is borrelia?

Borrelia is a species of gram-negative, anaerobic, screw-shaped bacteria. Some species are pathogenic, transmitted by the bites of arthropods.
B. burgdorferi The species causing Lyme disease in humans and borreliosis in dogs and cattle; transmitted by several species of ixodid ticks.
